Disappearing iTunes card balance

The remaining available $ balance for redeemed iTunes cards in my account has disappeared for the second time. The first time, months ago, I let it go. This time "I'm not gonna take it anymore"!!! I last used the card on 07/29/17. I buy cards and maintain a balance because I don't want iTunes purchases billed to my credit card.

?iTunes update was installed recently, could that be the culprit?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.0.x), Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.16GHz

One possibility is that you have a subscription, cloud storage upgrade or something else that is using up the balance. The following link has instructions on how you can review any charges: Get help with an item purchased from the App Store, iTunes Store, or iBooks Store - Apple Support
