Touch Screen Issue

A few days ago the very top bar on my iphone 7 plus screen stopped responding to the touch of my thumb, however, it still responds to the touch of my index finger. It does this across apps so it is not just a single app issue. I have removed my screen protector and the issue still exists. I have also updated everything and shut the phone down completely and restarted many times. Thoughts?
