I just swapped my Samsung for an iPhone, and I am trying to get my old photos to the iPhone.
I see that the iCloud is limited to 5gb, and but my photos and vids are over 15gb.
Can I upload some to the iCloud then from the iCloud save to my phone memory and repeat??
On the Android it was much easier, could just drag and drop....

There is no easy way to split unless you store the photos in 2 different apps. iCloud Photos is a sync service. Everything on your phone will be replicated in iCloud, no matter how it got on your phone. You can sync photos outside of iCloud entirely, but they will be split between 2 different presentation apps. See "Sync your photos manually: Syncing photos via iTunes
You can increase your iCloud storage to 50 GB for 99¢ a month. That's probably the easiest way, and a good investment vs the time to fudge it.
I personally don't believe in paying for something when it can be done for free.

How much storage does your iPhone have? You won't be able to back all of then up but you can transfer/copy the connect from your Samsung to your iPhone with a computer.
I got over 100gb free, so ample.
So I should connect my Samsung to iPhone and then transfer the photos?
How do I do this? Do I need to buy a wire or can it be done over wifi?
Do you have access to a computer with USB ports?
