Turn off Apple Pay Messages (made the mistake of upgrading)

I recently upgraded my iPhone (big mistake)- now I'm getting pestered constantly to setup Apple Pay. Similarly I've had MANY issues with Apple nagging me to set up iCloud (I refuse to use iCloud). The more Apple pesters and the more Apple makes it impossible to turn off these annoying messages the LESS LIKELY I'll ever use Apple Pay or iCloud. I'm at a point of considering ditching Apple entirely simply because there seems to be no way whatsoever to turn off these annoying (and self-serving) messages.

I'm not updating my iPad (because I don't want annoying messages appearing on that device either).

I'm just sick of this nonsense.

@deggie - okay that got me to the screen where I COULD turn this off. Thanks.

Now, if I could only remove EVERY annoying iCloud message (I posted about this before - doesn't seem possible). I don't use iCloud and because Apple is so hyper irritating about me using iCloud - I will NEVER use that feature. In fact, it's highly likely I'll throw this phone in the trash and get a Samsung. Annoying messages will NEVER win me over. If Apple had been cool about iCloud (ability to turn irritating iCloud messages off) then there would have been a far better chance I'd give iCloud a try - but not now. There's too much negativity associated with the lack of control. Apple doesn't really get that SOME PEOPLE DON'T WANT iCloud.

So if somebody was trying to give you $1 million dollars but kept nagging you about it you would spite them by not taking it?

You actually never did say why you won't use iCloud which is fine but if you think moving to an Android phone will avoid this (and the nagging) you are mistaken. All of the Android phones also use the cloud for a variety of functions. Your best bet to avoid this is to move to a flip phone that does not use cell data.

And are you sure the nagging is about iCloud? Because you can go to Settings > Your Name and turn off everything that uses iCloud. You probably have one or more of them on which is why you are being nagged.

If that does not work the nag may be about using 2 Factor Authorization and not iCloud. If you have a credit card tied to your iPhone in your iTunes account it will probably never stop nagging you about that for security reasons.

@welafever - By "screen" do you mean instructions? Assuming you meant instructions: I'm not sure what occurred - but on first try I ended up in an area where there wasn't anything particularly obvious to turn off the annoying messages. I probably mistakenly followed one of the Apple Pay popups that I've been getting - immediately after upgrading. Anyway, hopefully the Apple Pay messages will cease. And, thanks for your help.

@deggie - I'm in a foul mood - stemming from ongoing annoyances (for months) that seemingly can't be resolved (iCloud messages). An Apple Pay message showing up today in an unusual place, the text messaging area while attempting to text a friend, was the last straw.

Regarding your first paragraph written to me: Non sequitur

I don't need to explain to ANYONE why I don't want to use iCloud - that is not relevant.

I had an S4 (I think) around 2013 to 2017 (or 2016). I didn't have any sort of issues with anything cloud related. Zero. And, this is my point. Has Samsung pulled that sort of crap with me (that Apple is pulling) I'd NEVER consider using Samsung again.

Maybe things have changed for the worst with Samsung. I don't really know. But, all I'm asking for is THE ABILITY TO SAY NO WITHOUT THOUSANDS OF MESSAGES BEGGING ME TO USE A SERVICE THAT I DON'T WANT. Why the flip would something as basic as that (turn off pestering messages) be so complicated? Apple wants to charge money. <-- That's the only reason you can't turn off these annoying iCloud messages I get on EVERY Apple device I have.

If you are using Calendar, Contacts, iMessage and FaceTime you are indeed using iCloud. And this may be the reason for the nags. What it the exact message you get when it pops up and what were you doing just before it occurred? This may help to find a way to turn it off.

Thousands of messages? Exaggerate much? Are you perhaps backing up to iCloud and it is telling you that you need to increase storage space? Do you have photostream or Photo Drive on?

And yes, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, HTC smartphones will all do something similar in this day and age. Even though android is not near as secure as the iPhone they are attempting to plug the holes.

You invited Apple into your home and you can invite them out. But considering how much things like this stress you out again I would suggest you select a phone that does not have cell data.

I have experienced the same thing. The Apple tech support cannot fix it, so they are sending me to the ios guys on Tuesday after Christmas. Im sick of seeing this request. It interferes with everything, every few minutes.

If your next step after a reboot is to restore a device then you're not actually helping. Thats the software equivalent of replacing the engine because you can't find what's making the grinding noise.

Restoring as a new device is only acceptable as a the last option.
