Pattern on Splash Screen

On Switching on my MacBook Pro the Apple symbol has a pattern on it. On Start Up the pattern covers the whole screen and obscures the Log On Screen.


Starting in Safe Mode allows me to log on and use it as normal but the screen still has a pattern in it.


I have tried PRAM. SMC and a different battery to no avail.


Any ideas.

Connect to an external monitor to test whether it is the display itself or the video card

I have a Pismo with the display completely broken that works fine on my flat-panel TV
