Cant copy photos library from HDD to New Mac

facing an issue copying my photos library from my external HDD to my new Mac. The ext HDD was my backup for my pro and formatted accordingly but when copying to my new macbook air it gives an error of a duplicate file name. Tried to compress in vain

How is the external HD formatted and connected to your new Mac? It should be OS X Extended (journaled). Anything else is incompatible with the complex ecosystem of file permissions and hard links.
