Question: ‘Devices’ not shown in Photos sidebar

I’m trying to import some photos from my iPhone into Photos on my iMac but I find I can't do it anymore.

The help page says select my iPhone from the list under ‘Devices' in the sidebar.

There is no ‘Devices’ option there.

  • I’ve tried restarting my iMac. No joy.
  • I’ve got 'iCloud Photo Library' turned OFF.
  • I have 'My Photo Stream' is turned ON.
  • I have 'iCloud Photo Sharing’ turned ON too.

I think this may have started with my upgrade to MacOS 10.13.2.

The last photo I managed to import into Photos a couple of days ago shows up under My Photo Stream. Nothing since.

iMac with Retina 5K display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.1), 4ghz i7 16GB RAM June 2016

Thanks for replying. iPhone 5 running iOS 10.3.3.

As it happens I have just opened Photos again and the category ’Devices’ is now there and is showing my photos.

I’m using another connector, so I reckon the one I was using yesterday must be broken. It would also explain why my iPhone was completely discharged this morning.

Thanks again.

Which system is running on your iPhone?

In Photos 3.0 on Sierra you should be seeing the iPhone in the sidebar, if the iPhone is unlocked, charged, and if there are new photos on the iPhone.

If the devices section should be empty, howver with the cursor to the right of devices, until "Show" or "Hide" appears and click "Show".
