Using iMac to provide cable network connectivity to laptop?

Hi

I have a 2011 iMac running running Sierra that connects wirelessly to the internet router (due to location of the router endpoint into my house its not possible to run cable from router to the iMac).

I have a Windows laptop in another area of the house that receives very poor wireless signal from the router, but the house is laid out in such a way that I could run a cable from the laptop to the iMac - can I use this to access internet that the iMac receives wirelessly?

If so, is it a simple ethernet cable?

Thanks!

iMac, iOS 10, null

Have you considered using a WiFi extender unit? I bought the Coredy N300 Mini WiFi Range Extender for our house and it has provided service to all areas. There are many units available with a broad range of power and capability.
