Question: iMac 27 dual ssd/1TB configuration

I'm running an iMac late 2009, High Sierra 10.13.2, 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 16 gigs memory. Might it be possible to install an SSD drive internally to co-exist with the internal 1TB drive? I have in mind to clone my 1TB drive to the SSD, then use the 1TB for files.

I believe I can do this by sacrificing the DVD drive replacing it with a DVD caddy. Just wondering how feasible it might be to try to install an SSD somewhere internally, without sacrificing the DVD drive. Thoughts of others?

BTW, I currently have a 1TB laptop drive pasted to the face of my iMac, USB connection, letting Time Machine work with it.

Thank you, suspicions confirmed, saw some YouTube installations saving the DVD drive, not simple. As I already happen to have an external DVD drive, I went for the minmum kit to install an SSD in a DVD caddy, as I already have a pair of suction cups. Stay tuned....
