request for password again

I recently got an iPad pro. After setting it up, I found that when I pushed the home button to activate the device, it required that I type my password to procede. This was good. Now, though, without knowingly having changed anything, when I press the home button, I get the home page, and can go directly to any available app. How do I reset the device to once again require my password before launching any app? Thank you.

If you entered a fingerprint to use Touch ID, it will use your fingerprint when you touch the home button and it will unlock without entering a passcode. Even with Touch ID enabled, the passcode must be entered the first time after any restart.

The passcode and Touch ID settings are at Settings > Touch ID & Passcode.
