i have lost all my music on my macbook

Can you place this in some context please? Were you doing an update? Are the music files really missing (look in the Music > iTunes > Media folder) or are they just not listed in the iTunes window? If you can tell us some background then I don't have to paste about 2 pages of possible solutions for all scenarios.
