Having trouble connecting to my Secure Wireless connection

I have a linksys router with a secure wireless connection and I have the key/password but it is not working. When I click on Airport, then the wireless connection I want, I am prompted to enter the password. I enter the password but it does not allow me to connect to my secure network. How do I add the secure wirless network onto my apple?
