Changed iphone7s, backed up with iTunes, many contact photos missing

Hi, I followed all of the steps on this transition (used same sim chip) but then many contacts didn’t fully come through as on Messages screen there are now many random phone numbers- no name or photos which I had painstakingly pulled together for everyone. Help!
