How long will I be able to get software/Security updates for my MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.53GHz, Mid 2009) laptop? Currently I am unable to download past OS X El Capitan10.11.6.

To clarify what exactly does a couple of upgrade cycles mean? My laptop is a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.53GHz, Mid 2009)! Probably not supported by Apple?
