number of attachments not showing in classic email list

It used to be that in an email list using the classic format that in a column headed by a paper clip, I'd see the number of attachments with any particular email - I don't see this now. Awhile back when I asked about this, rebuilding of the mail files was suggested - this bombed and I lost my entire Inbox of emails - maybe I was stretching the Inbox because I had well over 100,000 emails in the inbox. Any thoughts on getting this to work again? I thought some of moving everything in the inbox currently into another mailbox (would renaming the inbox do the same thing)? Once the inbox was essentially empty maybe rebuild would work and restore those counts? Any ideas? I'm on OS X Sierra 10.12.6 and email 10.3 currently.

Thanks

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.4/2.2 GHz), OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

Reindex messages For El Capitan, try looking in V3. Sierra use V4. High Sierra use V5.
