Changing WiFi Network on Apple TV using Remote control app

My original Apple TV (Gen 2) remote no longer works, so I have been using the Remote App on the iPhone to control my Apple TV. I recently had to set up a new wireless network (AirPort) in my home, and now my Apple TV is "stuck" on the old wireless network. My iPhone Remote App can no longer control the Apple TV because the iPhone is on the new wireless network. I have read in forums that I need a standard Apple TV remote control to regain control of my Apple TV.

The remote app pairs via wifi so once it is on a new network it will no longer be discoverable. The physical remote will be required to navigate and change to the new network. If you are unable to borrow one then you would have to purchase the replacement from Apple.

The alternative, if you have a Mac, is the cidertv app. However, it would require a restore via iTunes and as it's unclear whether the firmware for the 2nd gen (6.2.1) is still active I would not recommend that.
