Is there any good transcription software for Mac?

I am wanting to dictate some essays and stories on my Mac, but, the included software is not very usable at least in my hands. Dragon keeps coming up in searches, but, is probably way way more than I need, not to mention expensive. So, any suggestions? I do not mind paying for it but want a simple but reliable able to do my work?
