trying to restore my sons macbook but cannot start it as he cannot remember passcodes

My son is in hospital and has asked that i restore his macbook pro which i bought in 2013 however he cannot remember his passcode due to his illness how can i restore this when i cannot find the receipt on apple account they only go back 18 months
