Logic Pro X not reading midi file

I have Logic Pro X 10.3.2 and I'm trying to import a standard midi file (.mid) that I have saved from an old Sony Ericsson phone of mine.

If I click import from the file menu or drag and drop the file nothing happens, no midi region appears in the workspace. There is no error messages from logic either to suggest that there is a problem with the file.

Any ideas as to why this might be or what I could try?
