Before ios 11, I had VIPs identified on my iphone and notifications would alert me of incoming emails from VIPs. I use the native Mail app with my gmail account.
After updating to iOS 11, the VIP notifications have stopped and mail has been extremely slow to refresh.
Has anyone else had similar experiences or identified a resolution?

Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Make sure that new data is pushed to your device automatically:
- On your device with iOS 10 and later, tap Settings > Mail > Accounts > Fetch New Data and turn on Push.
- On your device with iOS 9 and earlier, tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, and Calendars > Fetch New Data and turn on Push.
- Then send an email to your account to see if Push is working.

if you have that mail folder open on your phone and the emails are being retrieved at that time. If your mail application is closed or your phone lock their are no alerts. This change occurred sometime in June 2017. Please feel free to test
your VIP alerts by keeping your email folder open and downloading a qualified VIP email and your alert will sound.
The settings were also changed in the "MAIL" setting to Push/Fetch and those settings are no longer available.
I am also getting this issue.
It is problematic, but because I liked getting instant notification for emails that came from my bank but not for everything else. This way I would know right away trough a vibration and on screen notification if I got a VIP email.

These settings have been checked. If I delete the account (google in my case) and add it back, I receive notifications for a little while. Then the notifications stop. This concern was escalated to a higher level support representative but follow up has not been quick or easy.
If you have redirecting rules on your mailbox, you need to select the folder in which the emails from that person goes to. To do so, go in settings>accounts/passwords>new data. Check the push option and checkmark the folder where the emails from the VIP person goes to. That’s how I fixed the issue on my side.

I had this problem also. I was using an email address that wasn't listed in my contacts. Once I added a new contact with the email address attached to it, the VIP notifications started working.
