How do I keep app data when I switch to another apple ID?

Everyone in my family has their own Apple ID, but we all use my wife's Apple ID for buying iPhone apps. Now I want to use my own Apple ID for buying apps and totally break free of my wife's ID. All my apps were purchased under my wife's ID.

1. Do I have to repurchase and reinstall the apps again using my own ID? I DO want to be able to update the apps at some point without using my wife's ID.

2. What happens to the apps' DATA if I reinstall the apps under my own ID? It's data like my biking history in my bike app. I don't keep that data on the Cloud except as part of general phone backups. (Maybe contacts in the Contacts app are on the Cloud -- I'm not sure).

Basically I need to keep my data. Thanks for any guidance!
