Pages autocorrects before I finish typing a word

Autocorrect in Pages seems to be a little too keen!

I'll be typing a word, and then halfway through autocorrect will think it knows what word I'm typing. While I'm still typing the word, autocorrect will insert the "corrected" word. Even if autocorrect inserts the correct word, I'm still typing the word, and very often I keep typing, not realising what's happened. The result is the full word that autocorrect inserted, plus the letters that I finished typing. Here's an example:

1. I want to type the word "disappears"
2. I type the letters "dis"
3. Autocorrect assumes that I want to type the word "disk", so inserts that word
4. I continue typing "appears"
5. The result is "diskappears"

Here are some more examples:

Word: obstacles

Autocorrect: obstacle

Result: obstacleles

Word: displacing

Autocorrect: displace

Result: displaceng

Word: downloaded

Autocorrect: download

Result: downloadaded

Word: significant

Autocorrect: signify

Result: signifyicant

I haven't noticed this happening in any other applications, but I do most of my typing in pages, so it could be that this can happen in other applications and just hasn't for me yet.

I thought that autocorrect took action when you press spacebar (that's how I've noticed it working in other applications). I'm not pressing the spacebar in the middle of typing a word, so I'm not sure why autocorrect is trying to correct me (I've clearly not finished typing the word). It's a possibility that I'm pausing slightly when typing these words, and autocorrect happens during the pause, but I'm not sure on this. It doesn't really make much sense to me to make autocorrect change things before the spacebar is pressed - It's clearly not helpful, and as you can see above, it rarely even gets the word right.

I've seen a similar problem documented elsewhere, and the only solution that was offered was to turn autocorrect off. I don't want to do that - autocorrect is very useful when it works.

It'd be great if someone could offer some insight into whether autocorrect is functioning as intended, and whether there is anything I can do to stop this happening
