MacBook Pro (2010) won't start after...,

I just recently erased my hard drive to re-acquire 300 Gb "stolen" by the ever elusive unidentified "Other". I was operating El Capitan OS, but when I restored, it was upgraded to Sierra. However, when I turned the laptop off and attempted to restart the following day, it would not start up. I attempted to install the applications CD that came with the original product, thinking that a necessary program was not included in the restore, but was then notified that the CD App Install was not compatible.


Not much of comp guy, so I am a loss here!


any advice?
