why is my macbook pro running so slow after this latest update?

MacBook Pro 2012

MacOS High Sierra version 10.13.1

Computer was responsive and doing great but I started receiving update notifications. So I updated the computer 5 days ago. Now I’m getting rainbow wheels, reluctance to open programs, and occasional black screens. What the heck is going on? Ran a cleaning program but that’s made no difference.

1. Reset NVRAM/PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18761

2. Reset SMC. Choose the method for “If the battery is non-removable”.

3. Start up in Safe Mode. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Once in Safe Mode, click the “Restart” button at the bottom.

4. If this doesn’t help, please run EtreCheck and post the report here.

https://etrecheck.com

Click”Download EtreCheck” button, open Downloads folder, click on it to open, and then select ”Open”.

Click on the bouncing EtreCheck icon in the Dock.

“Choose a problem” from the popup menu box, and then “Start EtreCheck” in the dialog.

Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar and select “Copy to Clipboard” .

Paste it when you reply.
