Is it possible to update the operating system on an Iphone 5S from IOS 7.0.4 to IOS 9.3.5 . When I try to update from ITunes with the firmware (*.ipsw), I get error 3194. I edited the hosts files, and now I am getting error 3600.

The iPhone 5S may run the current iOS (11.2.1). Therefore, if you upgrade (as you should), you must upgrade to the current version.
This would require you to use iTunes 12.7 or later if you use iTunes.
You may not use an outdated .ipsw file under any circumstances.
Thanks for your reply, but I specifically need the IOS 9 not the latest IOS.
you can't when the ipsw version is no longer signed

In addition to @Rudegar’s response, with which I agree, it’s hard to imagine why you would not simply welcome the most current iOS version.
