a friend recieved a text from me, which i did not send. it was an SMS, it made no sense and there was no record of it as being sent in my phone! my friend has an android phone. Have i been hacked?

It's possible to fairly easily spoof a number I believe. You can start by reporting it to both your and your friend's mobile phone service providers.

If it continues consider reporting it to the authorities.

It is more likely your number has been spoofed than that your phone has been compromised.

If there are more instances of this type of event, you may wish to consider changing your number.

Maybe some one who knows your mobile number.
