Computer crashed & had to set up OS from scratch. Now I don't have my original user account & therefore can not access all of my backup files.

Sounds like you reinstalled is that right ?
If so, it's probably not recoverable without third party software specialized to pull that data up, if able.
Do you have a Backup?
What exactly did you do when your reinstalled?
