Extra spaces in Mail App

When typing a message using the Mail App, there are extra spaces introduced after typing "I" and whenever I type a word immediately proceeding it and hit space, it introduces yet another space after "I." How do I stop this? It is getting very frustrating having to constantly remove large gaps of space in emails.

I was just on with Apple Support and we found and fixed the problem for my computers. The same problem was happening on 3 computers for me, all connected to the same iCloud account, and when I fixed it on one computer they all got fixed. Turned out to be a pretty simple fix for me, and this is what I did: Went to System Preferences > Keyboard, then selected the Text tab. Under the "Replace" and "With" columns, I deleted the "I" under both, then the problem went away. I guess there was some odd spacing thing tied to that feature. Hope that works for everyone else too.

I just purchased my 2017 MacBook Air and I'm having the same trouble with my Mail App. When composing an email, extra spaces appear between words. The only way to get rid of them that I've found is to go back behind each word and delete the extra spaces which is very time consuming. I hope someone somewhere is working on fixing this glitch in the system. I'm installing High Sierra now and I hope that this issue is fixed.

I've been having the same problem, on 3 different Macs I use in different locations. For me, the extra spaces occur and build only after the first instance of using "I" in a paragraph, and it only happens when it's just the word "I" -- not if it's a longer word that happens to start with a capital I. I've now gone through a few system software upgrades of High Sierra since this problem began, and it still has not been corrected. It's a very odd and annoying problem, it happens in every new email I write under any email address within Mail, and I'm anxiously awaiting an answer or a fix.
