Hello jgrego922,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you want to edit the Favorites shown in the left sidebar in Safari on your Mac. To help with this, please follow these steps:

  • Rearrange your Favorites: Drag them to different locations.

  • Edit a favorite website or folder name: Control-click it in the Favorites page or Favorites bar, then choose Rename from the shortcut menu. You can also force click the name, or click and hold the name until it’s highlighted, then enter a new one.

  • Remove a favorite website: Drag the favorite website away from the Favorites page or Favorites bar, then let it go when you see the Remove icon User uploaded file. You can also Control-click the Favorite, then choose Delete from the shortcut menu.

  • Show a different bookmarks folder in Favorites: Choose Safari > Preferences, click General, then use the “Favorites shows” pop-up menu.

  • Show or hide frequently visited sites in Favorites: Choose Bookmarks > Show Frequently Visited in Favorites.

Frequently visited sites are listed below your Favorites on the Favorites page.

In order to remove multiple items at once, you can hold down the Command (⌘) key on your keyboard while clicking the ones you'd like to remove. Once you've selected the ones you want to delete, press the Delete key on your keyboard.

Cheers!

Thanks for replying, jgrego922, and that additional info, it really helps! Since you want to do this in Finder, please follow these steps:

  • Hide or show the sidebar: Choose View > Hide Sidebar or View > Show Sidebar. (If Show Sidebar is dimmed, choose View > Show Toolbar.)

  • Resize the sidebar: Drag the right side of the divider bar to the right or left.

  • Change what’s in the sidebar: Choose Finder > Preferences, click Sidebar, then select or deselect items.

  • Rearrange items in the sidebar: Drag an item to a new location. You can’t rearrange items in the Shared section.

  • Show or hide all the items in a section of the sidebar: Position the pointer over the section head until you see Hide or Show appear, then click the Hide or Show button. For example, to temporarily hide your Favorites, position the pointer over the Favorites heading in the sidebar and click the Hide button.

  • Add a folder or disk to the sidebar: Drag the item to the Favorites section.

If you don’t see the Favorites section, choose Finder > Preferences > Sidebar, then select at least one item in the section.

  • Add an app to the sidebar: Press and hold the Command key, then drag the app icon to the Favorites section.

  • Remove an item: Drag the item icon out of the sidebar until you see the remove sign User uploaded file.

The sidebar link disappears, but the original item is still on your Mac. You can’t remove items from the Shared section.

Keep in mind that you can only move one item at a time from the favorites bar in Finder.

Have a great day and thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

yeah, without serious modification to finder you are not going to get this functionality. its drag and drop.

Unless..... say you wanted to remove the default folders.... you could use automator to create a workflow which opened preferences and unchecked each folder box. In fact you might be able to do that for your ten folders depending on how you plan to grab them.
