something went wrong

We can't get that information right now. Please try again later.

www.hotmail.com was loading/opening fine until two days ago (and still loads OK on Google Chrome)

MacOS High Sierra Version 10.13.2 (17C88)

You are welcome. Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History…. The down side is it clears all cookies. Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db and move it to the trash.

If that doesn't work, try running this program in your normal user account , then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy Report” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Etrecheck – System Information

Jan 12, 2018 5:47 PM in response to Eric Root

Hi,

I'm facing the same issue as Taigh-arch, I've found a work around to access my hotmail account by using Chrome instead but want to continue using Safari for everything. I've followed the steps to empty the caches and deleting history items but it still doesn't work.

I ran the EtreCheck as recommended, copied the report and pasted it here... not sure if this is something you'd be able to assist with? I have tried to contact any outlook help but it seems that I can't access any microsoft site at the moment.

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is marked solved, less people are likely to look at it. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.

I don't see anything that usually causes problems. If you try accessing the site in another admin user account, will it load? Will it load in the Safe Mode?

Thanks Eric - I went through a lot of these points on my own first before posting, but I appreciate the links and looked for additional items to try - all to no avail I'm afraid.

Here's the rub - I have found a back door into hotmail.com (outlook.live.com) by logging into MSN.com, then clicking on a preview of an email under the mail tab - it took me into hotmail. Now, I can browse my emails on that newly opened page just fine, but when I try to refresh that page, I get the same error message as before. Something is amiss. I've also tried fresh safari windows, quitting safari, powering down and back up etc. to clear the system. I also turned off "adblock" and "waste no time" extensions completely in preferences but still hotmail.com would not load. As I mentioned, it was working fine a couple of days ago. I can only think a small safari update from apple loaded that has caused a minor, but frustrating conflict.
