How do I stop Siri talking in Watch OS 4.2

My watch and phone settings and synced... both the watch and watch app have the sound muted, both in do not disturb mode, and Siri is on my watch is set to 'only speak when connected to headphones' (originally set to speak when the watch isnt muted).

For most Siri stuff, it remains silent. But when I ask it to turn on lights etc it talks (which is very annoying when I'm am going to bed and trying to be quiet.

I never had an issue, but since the recent update to WatchOS 4.2 Siri is reluctant to stay quiet.

I have tried restarting the watch.

I have tried setting Siri to different setting.

I have restarted my phone.

I haven't tried repairing - this is a long process that I've already had to do once shortly after getting the watch do to other App issues.

It seems to me to be a OS update issue - especially because it was fine up until this update.

Anyone know any fixes or suggestions?

Same issue on 4.2. My wife's Series 3 does the same thing after update to 4.2. This seems to be a flaw in the OS. I have a support ticket with Apple specific to this. They followed up with me twice since my initial support call but the communication has since gone dead. Honestly, I can see how some would find Siri talking on the Watch useful but when I hear her voice coming from my wrist I want to show up at my nearest Apple store and request a full refund for the Watch. I think we are at the mercy of Apple on this one sadly. ATTN Apple, please make an independent setting to completely disable Siri talk back on Watch. I would like to hear the other sounds on the Watch minus Siri, especially since the Stainless models have the worst Taptic feedback due to their heavy weight.

I have 'Hey Siri' turned off on my watch.
I have it set to only talk when wearing headphones.

I have my watch set to muted and do not disturb.

I long press the digital crown and saying "good night" - what used to happen was a message popped up saying "I'll tap you when I'm done"... since the 4.2 update this doesn't happen. Instead Siri turns things off and speaks to me saying "done" or "good night" or "the scene is set".

I can assure you I am not wearing headphones to bed - yet Siri insists on talking.

Siri on my phone works fine - it's just my watch.

This is a total disaster honestly. When my watch "talks" I want to throw it out the window. And I'm deeply sympathetic of the desire to show up at Apple retail and request a full refund for my $800 watch. And as each software update (one so far 4.2.2) arrives and this issue isn't addressed I'm still considering requesting an exception for a full refund. I also second the feature request to completely disable Siri talk back on ALL DEVICES regardless of headphones or mute state. I won't purchase HomePod until I KNOW I can disable Siri's talk back. I adore asking my devices to do things but become enraged when Siri speaks back in the cute and completely unnecessary folksy way it does. This is the uncanny valley problem and surely Apple understands that concept. As Siri matures my hope is it actually improves and gets out of the way vs becoming more human-like. We are so far away from anything approaching human comprehension from Siri.

I agree with your frustrations regarding Siri talking back on the Apple Watch. This has been driving me crazy and then a few days it stopped... really, I don't know what I did... then it started again. I am baffled.

In terms of the HomePod, I have one at work, and there is no way I can use Siri because her response is always LOUD. If the volume on the HomePod is set on low (which in my office it generally is), the voice response volume ignores it. The fact that I can't reduce the volume or at stop the feedback is disappointing. I would not use it at home to turn off lights at night, etc. because it's so LOUD.
