Disable the ring/silent switch?

I see from searching the forum that there is no software setting that will disable the ring/silent switch on the iphone.

The next time Apple decides to leave out a hardware "feature", they would do the world a favor by removing this.

I'm looking into ways to disable it without killing the iphone. I've seen someone post somewhere that they cut a short length off a vinyl covered paperclip and wedged it in to keep the ringer on.

I thought about mixing up some 5-minute epoxy and filling the space below the switch with it, or glueing in the tip of a toothpick.

Has anyone come up with another way to disable this horrid little "feature"?

Why would I want it disabled when I used it all the time when I'm at work?

How is it a horrible little feature, when with one switch you can go from ringer to silent.
