Cannot Print Black on HP Printer

Ever since I made some updates on this mac, which is currently IOS High Sierra 10.13.2, I cannot print black on the HP Officejet Pro 6968 printer. I have talked with HP technical support twice, we tried everything, they even took control of the laptop remotely. Please Help or Donate a new printer.

The C in Cups and all the Unix Printing System letters should be black, and the grayscale at the right should be solid back at the top. If there is any black at all in the rainbow swirl, it is at the 3 O'Clock position only. I would have expected the test print to bypass the settings of the Print driver, but maybe not.

If you can print from another source without issue, the culprit is likely to be Presets. You may have inadvertently stored a wonky setting into your "Default Settings".

the name of the Application doing the printing usually appear at the position of the red Arrow above. It is a pop-up menu for a whole flock of other settings sub-panes. the example above is showing the "color sub-pane, and its settings arrayed below it. Under RGB color you may see choices that use only RGB and others that use CMY, and still more that use CMY and K(for real black ink).

Does it print black black on its built-in test page?

That separates physical 'can't print blacks' INSIDE the printer from 'can't specify blacks' outside the Printer.

There is also a color test page built into CUPS, the Apple printing system, which can be used to get an independent test page if the Printer cannot produce its own test page internally.

Step 1 to access CUPS is to turn on its Web Interface. This article has a simple recipe. CUPS is accessed via your Web browser, but the things it accesses are right on your computer (or on the remote computer that interfaces directly to the Printer, if you Network your Printers).

On further reading, CUPS Interface is not needed to print a CUPS test Page. Prince test page should be available on the Print Queue Window for each available printer.
