I'd delete the messages.
It says "Apple" at the top of the Messages screen in your screenshot. If you didn't have a number for Apple in your contacts, that would be a number.
Apple doesn't send Apple ID verification codes through the Messages app.
What number is it that you have in your contacts for Apple?
