wireless microphone for iphone

Hi All-

I'm searching for a solution with the iPhone - I'm using it to record bird songs in the field, and right now I attach my Senheisser ME66 shotgun mic to the phone with a series of cables (iPhone photo adapter, a USB converter, and a 3.5mm to XLR cable), which works but is a bit unstable (because of all the connections) and creates a nest of wires more often than not. My fantasy is that there is a transmitter I can attach to my mic that will connect wirelessly to the iPhone, and allow me to record with it. I've done a lot of searching, and I see some pretty convoluted Sony and Senheisser solutions that involve a transmitter, receiver, converter and cable, are very bulky (totally losing the size advantage of the phone) are battery powered (another thing that can go wrong) and are over $1000.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear. And if anyone has some advice about why this isn't feasible, I'd be grateful - it's driving me a little nuts in a world of bluetooth and wireless that I can't connect my mic to my phone in a similar manner.

Thanks for any and all help!
