2G Shuffle Sleep Mode Question

First of all, I love my 2G iPod Shuffle. It does exactly what I need it to do. I use it mainly at work. Which leads me to this question.

Does the 2g Shuffle have a deep sleep mode like the older ipods? I had about a week off over xmas where I didn't use the shuffle, and I was listening to an audio book.

When I turned it on after the week off, the playlist started back at the beginning of the list instead of where I left off.

Is there any way to change this behavior so it always remembers where I was? Without a screen on the shuffle, it was difficult navigating back to the spot where I left off in my book.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Press PAUSE before turning it OFF... also, check "remember playback position" in Geti Info>Options for the audiobook.
