Macbook insomnia (doesn't sleep)

So.

My MacBook doesn't go to sleep anymore if I close the lid. Wel, not automatically, I can just put it to sleep, close the lid; and then it'll stay in sleep mode; but it still is annoying and just want it to sleep if I close the lid.

Any suggestions? tricks or tips or whatever? ("bringing it in" is an answer I could come up with myself)

Oh; and besides that it is getting far too hot. Can't get to play any simple flash-movies (youtube); without the fans making a lot of noise and the mac getting really hot. Or just using iTunes for half an hour.

The fans are supposed to kick in for flash or any media/video tasks - and is the book getting warm on a flat surface or do you have it on your lap? Do you have all your firmware updates applied as per 'Software Update'?

The sleep problems sounds strange ...are you certain there are no background applications that may be running (certain login items, printer utilities etc?) ...it also may be the magnetic latch - but you are saying it sometimes goes to sleep and then sometimes doesn't (via the lid) - which would rule this out to me.

Just to ask the obvious, but are you waiting for all your process to stop/subside before closing the lid - if you closing the lid?

On a flat surface & on my lap.
All my firmware is updated
No background applications running. (all checked)

If the fans always keep making that noise just If want to watch a simple youtube-movie; with a noise so loud that it oversounds the sound of the speakers, I think this MacBook is quite an unusable computer, I say. If I want a noisebook, I'll buy a dell.

So the point is: I checked EVERYTHING that could cause these things.
(also ram zapping; Onyx; .. whatever you name it, I probably did it.)

Oh. I can't hold for more than half an hour on lap, whatever I'm doing with it; It almost burns my legs then.

Considering the volume of the Macbook speakers that's not saying much 😉 ...aside from possibly trying an SMC reset I can't suggest anything more than bringing it in - at least to compare the fan activity with other Macbooks running the same type of files. They could also test the lid/cover magnets as well.

Their response may be to do a fresh install ...so make sure you have everything backed-up before.
