Cannot save photos from emails

I am assuming that you are using the Mail app.

Click on the photo in the message.

In the lower left hand corner, you should see a square with an arrow pointing up on top of it.

Click on the box and arrow icon.

In the window that pops up, in the bottom row of icons, select "save to files."

Touch and hold the photo until a menu appears. Then tap "Save Image."

Try doing a hard reset. Hold the power button and home button at the same time.

Your iPhone will restart. Continue holding both buttons until you see an Apple logo on your screen. Release both buttons at this point.

Which iOS version is installed on your iPhone [settings / general / about]?

Can you save photos from any email?

iOS 9.3? Well, you must be using some old iOS device to still be using a two-year old version of iOS (iPad 2, iPad 3, or original iPad Mini). Anyway, it's good you clarified this.

I suspect the save method was somewhat different back then - I don't honestly recall.

By the way, you say "the last update" above. Update of what? The latest release of iOS 9 was iOS 9.3.5, which was released in August, 2016.
