If I get a new apple watch and set it up as new, do I keep my achievements from my original apple watch?

I am currently using the original Apple Watch but am getting a new series 3. When switching watches I want to set up my new one as a new watch instead of loading a backup, however I have a question. If I do set it up as new, are the achievements I got on my original watch going to stay in my activity app, or does it reset everything. Basically I am wondering if the achievements are kept on the watch or on the phone. Thanks for any help 🙂

Your data is held on the phone. This is retained when you unpair the old watch. When you pair your new watch you still have the original data. I have done this, original to series 3 GPS, and then upgraded my phone to an iPhone X. I still have all my health data from October 2015. You are able to wipe this data on the iPhone if that is what you want to do.
