One of the audio options is my Macbook. Make it stop

When my Macbook Pro is on (not even nearby) and I'm on a phone call, my phone always has the macbook as an audio option instead of just toggling the iPhone speaker. I don't know how it got there and I don't know how to remove it. It would be nice if I knew how to control this showing up or not. Most times I just want to quickly tap speaker, not deal with another audio source that may not be nearby!

Can anyone help me with this setting?

Hi OmegaPhoenix,

I understand that when you're on a phone call, you have the option to send the call audio to your MacBook and you'd like to remove it. I'm happy to provide some help for this.

What you've described sounds like continuity. Check out the information in the following article to learn which features to disable:

Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support

With the iPhone Cellular Calls feature, you can make and receive calls from your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch when those devices are on the same network as your iPhone.

Set up iPhone Cellular Calls

Use iPhone Cellular Calls with any Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that meets the Continuity system requirements. It works when your devices are near each other and set up as follows:

  • Each device is signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
  • Each device is signed in to FaceTime with the same Apple ID.
  • Each device has Wi-Fi turned on.
  • Each device is connected to the same network using Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
  • On iPhone, go to Settings > Phone > Calls on Other Devices, then turn on Allow Calls on Other Devices.
  • On iPad or iPod touch, go to Settings > FaceTime, then turn on Calls from iPhone.
  • On Mac, open the FaceTime app, then choose FaceTime > Preferences. Click Settings, then select Calls From iPhone.

If your carrier supports Wi-Fi calling on other devices, you can set up those devices to make and receive calls even when your iPhone isn't turned on or nearby. Learn about Wi-Fi calling.

Make a call on your iPad or iPod touch

  • Tap a phone number in Contacts, Calendar, Safari, or other app that automatically detects such data.
  • Or open the FaceTime app and enter the phone number in the search field. Tap the phone number in the search result, then tap Call.

Make a call on your Mac

  • Move the pointer over any phone number in Contacts, Calendar, Safari, or other app that automatically detects such data. Click the arrow in the box that outlines the phone number, then choose Call [phone number] Using iPhone.
  • Or open the FaceTime app and enter a phone number in the search field. Control-click the phone number in the search result, then choose the phone number from the pop-up menu.

Answer a call

  • On iPad or iPod touch, slide to answer the call.
  • On Mac, a notification appears when someone calls your iPhone. From there you can answer the call, send it to voicemail, or send the caller a message.

To stop getting calls at one of your devices, just turn off the Calls from iPhone setting on that device. See the setup section above for details.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!

That is very helpful! But my question still remains.

I read the continuity help doc, but nowhere does it mention that I can swap the phone call mid phone call by pressing the "speaker" button on my iPhone.

I'm a fan of all this continuity stuff, I just really want my "speaker" button to toggle just between my iphone speaker and earpiece so I don't have a 3rd option confusing me every time.

I'd like to do this without disabling all the handoff features en masse, because I still like all of them except the cellular call stuff. I have already turned of "Call on Other Devices" in Settings > Phone on my iPhone but this issue still remains!

Thanks for helping.

I had the same problem even with my mac turned off and it drives me crazy since i just wanted a simple tap to my speaker. I tried to disable the "calls on other device" and obviously it didn't work at all. But I still remember that on the first day I encounter this problem, I open spotify on my mac and selected my iphone as the output device. So i signed out my spotify account on my mac and my mac is not a third option anymore. Back to the old times, simple and efficient.

I hope this can help you!
