This is not working for me. When I try to change the birth date on my child's iPod it is grayed out. I do not see anywhere on the iPod that prompts for a request for permission from the Family Organizer. When I log into my child's iCloud account on my PC and attempt to edit the birth date it is grayed out and states that I must contact support. As Family Organizer, I log into my iCloud account and it does not show my child's iPod as a listed device nor do I see any place where I can access her information for changing her birth date but I know for a fact we are linked via Family Share. I also do not see any notifications to approve a birth date change. I have scheduled a phone call with Apple Support in hopes they can assist. My fingers are crossed that they will actually call me on time.
I have been trying to solve this issue for three days. All I am trying to do is download an app for my kid that Apple deems is not appropriate based on the birth date that I entered into the iPod during set-up. (However, in a few months my child will be of "appropriate" age).
I get that Apple takes security seriously but this is ridiculous. I am repeatedly being prompted to login to multiple accounts. And when doing so I have to answer security questions even after doing so already just minutes before. I am constantly having to deal with two factor authorization where I wait 10 or 15 minutes for a code to be sent to me only to find out that it hasn't or did not arrive and then I have to start the process over again. I finally get into the account to search "support" and then I am prompted to create a username and agree to more terms and conditions. It took 10 minutes to create a username that hasn't been used before. I finally begin to search for a solution only to find articles like this that send me on a circular scavenger hunt of trial and error solutions that end up not working.
It is obstacle after obstacle for the sake of "security" but makes the user experience extremely difficult and complicated and now all I want to do is throw my Apple products in the f**king trash. We pay big money for these products. We own them. You no longer do. You transferred ownership to the customer when the customer gave you their hard earned money. Why must the customer dance through hoops to use products we own to seek a fix when something is not working? Are you protecting my privacy? Sure... Okay... So you can continue to monetize it for your own financial gain... but that is a separate discussion.
A live person better call me at the scheduled time and they better have an easy solution that does not require me to spend an hour logging into multiple accounts and jumping through multiple "security" hurdles or you will forever lose me and my family as "customers".
