Turning Silent Mode on or off cannot be mirrored across your Apple Watch and iPhone.
Silent Mode can instead be enabled via Control Centre on your Apple Watch either directly or when turning on Theatre Mode. Control Centre is accessed by swiping up on the screen when viewing the time on your watch:
You may otherwise be referring to Do Not Disturb Mode.
In addition to being able to turn Do Not Disturb mode on and off via a button within Control Centre, your Apple Watch and iPhone can also be configured such that enabling the mode on one device also enables it on the other.
This mirroring setting also applies to scheduled operation of Do Not Disturb mode on your iPhone, which you may have enabled (such as to cover the hours when you are usually sleeping):
Hi. The exact same thing is happening to my Nike Apple Series 3. I received mine for Christmas and everything was awesome until I did the update. Now, it will ding randomly. Also, when I do have a text notification, it sometimes won’t ding and I won’t know until I go to check my phone. Which is not why I wanted the watch. I’ve even went as far as turning off maps, and email in the notifications so it wouldn’t send those random dings to the watch. Additionally, I’ve loved having the alarm the watch offers because it just vibrates your wrist instead of the phone’s usual loud ring, therefore not waking my spouse but ever since the update, my watch alarm goes off loud ring along with the vibrate—again, not why I wanted the watch.
I’m hoping the Apple team will be able to fix this.
Apple Watch keeps dinging even though I have iPhone on silent. Why? It didn’t used to do this until I updated my Apple Watch Series 3. How can I get it to mirror my iPhone again? I’ve tripled check settings. Watch is still mirrored off of iPhone.
