mighty mouse scrolling problems

I'm having trouble with my mighty mouse scrolling. It was working fine now not. I just replaced the batteries after indicatortold me to do so. I've tried re-loading the software (though the install routine called it an upgrade).

Mine wont scroll down.

Up, left, right no problem.

If I put the mouse near my ear I can hear a soft clicking when I scroll up, left or right, but no sound when I scroll down.

I have tried cleaning and pressing hard, etc.

...

I just got off a 47 minute troubleshooting session with apple support and they finally agreed to replace it. I can't believe how nontechnical and unknowledgeable the level 1 support at apple is. It was clearly a mechanical trouble and I described it very clearly, yet they insisted on making me log into other accounts, check preferences, replace batteries, etc. On top of that I was put on hold several times while the tech checked with others about what to do and filled out forms, etc. I have to say I really am not happy with apple support based on this and all previous experiences. On top of this I have to give a credit card# as collateral until I send the defective unit back. If that is the policy why don't they save the 47 minutes and just process the replacement just like the cell phone companies do??

Oh well. Good luck to all of you with your mouse problems..

Humble update-

I just put some rubbing alcohol on my finger, turned off my mouse and gently worked the scroll wheel in all directions for about 15 seconds then dried the excess alcohol with a Kleenex.

And- the scroll works perfectly now. It must have been some dirt or debris that the alcohol was able to work out.

I will still probably take the replacement apple is sending, but I wanted to let others know this worked for me..

Interesting also that the most common direction to have trouble is scrolling down as that is also the most common direction to scroll and therefor must collect the most dirt, grease, etc from our fingers.

Have you had any problems with your new mouse? Mine was working fine and I barely noticed the other day it doesn't scroll down. I want to replace it but I don't want to go through all the hassle. I can't hear the clicking when I scroll down either.

I started to panic since I only had my mighty mouse for three months, and it is already broke!? Nah, the "push hard but not too hard" trick worked fine! I worry though... if three months caused it to crap out, how long will it really last?! I NEVER had to clean a mouse on any machine (oh wait maybe the mouse ball in the older models)!! 🙂

OK yeaaaaa I def have been through three of these mice since like midway through summer.
The 1st one would have the scrolling problems, sometimes i could only go up, others only down, and sometimes only left or right or just not at all.

The 2nd one would basically forget that it was a double click mouse whenever I turned it off or took my laptop away for a while (classes) and came back. And sometimes some scrolling issues...

The 3rd one does both of these still I found that if I shut of the mouse and use the pad for a while it re-syncs or w/e idk what it does but I turn it on and it works again, sometimes I have to repeat this because when you click sometimes it will get that selection box and lock it so you can't click out of it.

These suck, or maybe I do and I just don't know how to work these things.
