How to delete your own contacts from your child's Apple ID

This post is actually the ANSWER, not a question! I spoke to an Apple support tech who showed me how to do this on my iPAD 5th Generation (Dec 2017). To anyone who set up Family Sharing and a new Apple ID for their child (who now has all of your own contacts linked to their account and you wish they didn't)... this is for you!

How it happened to me:

I set up my children's new iPads starting with my own Apple ID so that I could put restrictions on their accounts (great feature) via Family Sharing. What I shouldn't have done was that when I went to logout of my own Apple ID account, I should not have checked the boxes to save my Contacts, Bookmarks, etc. on the iPad. SO UNCHECK BOXES & DO NOT SAVE THESE ITEMS TO THE IPAD, b/c if you do, the next person to log in with their I.D. will have access to your info and it will be merged with their own contacts, calendars, etc.

How to delete your own contact list from your child's account

1). The Temporary way (hides contacts temporarily, but is not a permanent deletion and not recommended due to later merging of lists): When logged into your child's Apple ID account on the iPad/iPhone, go to Settings - Accounts & Passwords - iCloud - find the Contacts App in the list and turn off the Contacts button. (Note, that any new contacts that they create will be saved to the device only. To have their contacts list update to their iCloud account, you have to go back into Settings - Accounts & Passwords - iCloud - find the Contacts App in the list and turn ON the Contacts button ~ BUT you will be prompted that it will "Merge" their device contact list with their iCloud contact list at that point, which will still have your own contacts attached.

2). For permanent deletion, you need access to the internet on a computer. Go to iCloud.com. Log in with your CHILD'S Apple ID & password. Click Contacts icon. On left side, you can select All Contacts or just certain Groups that you wish to delete. Choose a group in the left-most column (I picked All Contacts). In the second column from the left, select the first contact and hold down the Shift key while scrolling to the bottom of the list with your mouse to also select the last contact. This should highlight everyone in-between the first and last contact. Once all are highlighted, hit Delete button on your keyboard. Repeat for any other Group of contacts you wish to permanently delete from your child's Apple ID account. Now, go back to your child's iPad or iPhone. Log out of their Apple ID (to logout: go to settings - Click Child's Name in top left column - then click Sign Out at bottom of right side column). When prompted, UNCHECK the contacts box so that you DO NOT SAVE A COPY TO THE DEVICE. Log back in. All contacts should be gone.

Hope this helps you!
