Apple update is slowing my old ipad

my iPad used to work fine. Performance was never issue.

i have even reset the iPad. Nothing is on it.

Openning App Store takes long time to load up.

i belive Apple is intentionally making old hardware slower using software updates.

forcing people to buy new iPads

has anyone else experience performance issues after installing Apple updates???

Hi

Go to iCloud make sure iCloud back up is on Then backup now over your wifi.

Then go to settings down to reset Restore ipad back to factory settings.

Set back up over over your wifi when it asks if you want to use iCloud backup Say yes to get your apps and data back.

Later on go to apps store download Battery life it will test your battery condition.

Cheers

The current iPhone battery degradation/CPU slowdown issues, under iOS 11, ONLY affects certain older iPhone models and NOT any other iPad models.

How much free data storage space is left on your iPad Air?

Ideally your iPad Air should be maintaining 3 Gbs OR greater free data storage space.

In Settings app, General settings panel, turn OFF Background App Refresh.

In Settings app, under General settings, Reset panel, at the right bottom of the list, Reset All Settings.

In Settings app (NOT from the iOS Control Panel) turn OFF Bluetooth when not using any Bluetooth devices.

Also, in general, if you want a faster IDevice, on all of my iDevices, I turn off most of the iOS motion graphics eye candy, by simply turning ON Reduce Motion in Settings app, General, Accessibilty settings.

Make sure you aren't running scads and scads of background apps in the iOS 11 Control Panel/App Switcher.

If you are quit a good amount a background running apps.

Also, make sure you don’t have scads and scads of active website tabs running in the web browser.

Quit a good chunk of active website tabs.

A 1st gen iPad Air ONLY has 1 GB of RAM!

Try a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons.

Slow iPad on iOS 9, 10 or 11!

Good Luck to You!

Hi Briansyddall,

Thanks for replying.

I am not using iCloud backup. Ipad is used for Kids and i regularly factory reset, so it only has original clean build OS.

I did some R&D and discovered that Apple recently admitted to slowing down older iphone models to improve battery life. I wont be surprised if IPADS are also intentionally slowed to increase Apple Sale.

We (Consumers) should be given the options to restore to older IOS versions.

Hi,

Your profile says tour iPad is running iOS 9.3.5. Normally this version should run like a charm on your iPad Air. Which iOS version are you running actually?

My own iPad Air was brilliant up to iOS 10 (all variants). Then under iOS 11 it became laggy to the point of becoming unusable. I am really wondering whether Apple did not do this on ourpose to force the owners of “older” iPads to buy a new one. This is not fair. Users should have the opportunity to choose to keep older iOS versions when there is an ulgrade, if they want it. What, there are still PC’s running Windows 7 out there! Why cannot iPad users rely on older iOS versions if they feel these run better on their older machine?
