iMovie sound making popping noise

Hey guys,

I am importing footage shot on a Canon G7X mark ii. The sound is fine upon playback on camera and when I put the footage onto my mac it is also fine but as soon as import it into iMovie it makes a popping sound every so often. I think it seems it is when the sound gets loud, not screaming or shouting - just a bit louder. I have tried using my footage on other editing software and it's fine so the problem is coming from importing it to iMovie. The noise is still there once exported and loaded to youtube.

Hi, Paula,

Further to Jim's reply, control-click on the clip's icon on your desktop, and then click on Get Info. What audio and video codecs does the pop up window show?

Also, this issue could be project related. You might try doing an Edit/Select All, Edit/Copy, of your project media in timeline view, and then Edit/Paste it into a newly created project and see if you still get the popping noise.

Do you get the popping if you play the clip in the media browser or only after editing in the timeline?

Hi,

If the popping noise is happening with all projects and with other media, then your current issue is not confined to the current project.

You can import to your desktop by using the Image Capture app in your Mac's applications folder.

Jim might have some thoughts on this.

It's happening with everything i shoot on the G7X but not if i shoot on my iPhone. I tried to copy the timeline and put it into another project and it could still be heard.

I'll try ad import the footage on my desktop and see it that helps.

Thank you Rich for taking the time to reply. I normally just import straight from my memory card from my camera. So not sure how to put my clips onto desktop.

I will try your second suggestion dn see if that helps, although it has happened with every project/video now since Christmas eve 😟
