Why won’t sound come out of my airpods?

I just recently got Apple AirPods. I have been using them for the past few days and all has went well. Today however, the sound cut out randomly. It says that it is connected and playing in the AirPods, however no sound will come out. I have tried reconnecting the AirPods using them with another device, and restarting them, however nothing has changed. I did not damage the AirPods in anyway, so why is this happening?
