how do I get bonjour to start working again on my mac.

How can I get bonjour to start working again. I just purchased a new HP printer which told me that I needed to have bonjour in order for scanning and faxing to work. When I went to Safari-preferences-advanced, there was no mention of bonjour. I should be able to check it as a bookmark or favorite but it is not there. I don't know what to do. Can anyone help me?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Bonjour is always running on macOS

When you open System Preferences -> Printers & Scanner -> [+]

If there are printers advertising themselves via Bonjour, you will see a popup list of them.

Otherwise, the [+] -> Add Printer or Scanner -> Default should list under "Kind" all the devices advertising via Bonjour.f

For example:

User uploaded file

If you do not see anything, then either A) the printer/scanner is NOT advertising via Bonjour, or B) your Mac and the printer are on different sub-nets.

It is easy to create multiple sub-nets in a home, but using multiple WiFi routers to extend the home WiFi range, but NOT putting the 2nd, 3rd, etc... WiFi routers into "Bridge" mode, so each router would create its own private sub-net, and Bonjour will NOT cross a sub-net boundary.
