Music on Apple watch

I have the brand new Apple Watch and just got AirPods. Can I play music from my watch without having my phone nearby? I created playlists in iTunes, put them on my phone, and then found them on my watch. But when I walk away from my phone (locker room at Gym), it stops playing at some point.

Yes, you can play music from your Apple Watch via Bluetooth headphones - including AirPods - that are paired to your Apple Watch without needing to have your iPhone nearby.
