how to make vintage film look like old silent movies

Any one got advice on how to make video look like old vintage film: flicker, dirt, scratches, stretched sprocket holes, etc.?

Mac G5, Mac OS X (10.4.8), Final Cut 4.5

If you have After Effects, here's another tutorial movie resource form AE wizard, Andrew Kramer. You need to obtain or create a film clip. Some of this information might be applied to FCP if you can find the underlying clip. The easiest source for that is to find an old projector, some clear film, and shoot it off a screen. Artbeats has this kind of thing on their stock footage reels.

All very helpful suggestions and I checked them all out. Some very interesting stuff out there! I downloaded a free version of CGM Aged Film plugin. It does dirt, scratches, a programmable "hair". The professional version ($) also at also adds shakes, and other goodies for around $150?. MiniDV shot footage edited in Final Cut Pro. I desaturated the original footage. I opted to add a strobe, a soft edged darker vignetting, that you get in older projectors. Sepia tone can be added in the plugin or in Final Cut filters. I added some motion key frames so the film slips to show the interframe for an instant, etc. and a topmost slug layer (black) that I have chopped up and set for random transparency makes the image flicker unevenly. With all this don't overuse--less, is more. Looks great, very believeable.
